The CMI Management Articles of the Year 2015: Press release day

Today is the press release day for the announcement of the CMI Management Articles of the Year 2015. I have been immensely honoured that my article about the 6 Box Leadership diagnostic is one of the winning five articles. This award is a very important recognition of my professional achievements as my work is all about transferring ideas to practice, turning knowledge into action, and implementing the latest management theory into the real world of business. This award recognises just that, as explained in CMI’s press release:

Encouraging and recognising accessible academic writing and bringing it to the attention of practising managers is a key part of CMI’s commitment to improving the quality and integrity of managers and leaders who will, in turn, help their organisations perform better. The CMI Management Articles of the Year initiative is supported by the British Academy of Management, the Association of Business Schools and the British Library.

CMI launched the initiative in 2011 with the dual aims of ensuring business school research meets business needs and directing time-poor managers to the research that will help them most. It helps meet priorities set out by the Government for Higher Education institutions to work more closely with businesses, as well as being in line with the REF approach to demonstrating research impact and enabling business schools to get ‘real world’ feedback from the managers the research is meant to benefit.

CMI issued a challenge to the academic community, inviting academics to submit research for professional managers to review. Submitted articles were reviewed online and given a usefulness rating by CMI members and those with the best ratings were then scrutinised by the CMI Academic Advisory Council, a committee made up of leading academics from across the UK“.

I am very grateful to all professional managers who assessed my article and members of the CMI Academic Advisory Council who selected it as one of the winners of this competition. It is hugely satisfying to see the practical impact of my ideas, and to get such a recognition for that. Thank you all!
